Theme Week 15: Option 2

Original Piece:
I was having a bit of trouble, trying not to write too literally about a picture of something. First I looked through some photos of mine, but nothing sparked any magic lightening bolts of creativity. So instead, I tried an internet search. I just plugged in one word after another until, I found some material. When I did a google search for the word “woman” 7 out of 28 pictures were pictures of Wonder Woman.

Not all of Wonder Women were the same actresses. Some I don’t think have ever played her character in any film or television program. It made me think, though, about all of her qualities. Why would she appear as many times as she does?
Maybe its because some people think she is the epitome of a woman. She’s incredibly strong, she could lift up a car or even her invisible jet. She can also fly through the air. Her outfit is stylish and well put together. She certainly doesn’t lack in the intelligence department. In the day time, to blend in with humans, she works as a government official.

I see her traits in a lot of real live women too. Incredible, super human strength especially.

Revision:
If you do a Google image search the word “woman” 7 out of 28 pictures belong to DC Comic’s Wonder Woman. The dark haired vixen appears in both illustrated form and portrayed by various beautiful actresses and models.

She possesses a lot of admirable superhuman powers that any modern woman would want. She can fly through the air, saving hours of her life not waiting in traffic. The outfit she wears is never outdated; after all of this time she still dons the same red, white and blue outfit. Her accessories are indestructible and she just happens to carry a Lasso of Truth with her at all times. You know, in case of emergencies. She’s also incredibly strong and could lift up a car or even her invisible jet.

She certainly doesn’t lack in the intelligence department either. In the day time, to blend in with humans, she works as a government official. As her other persona she is said to have no powers at all. Why is her intelligence left out of the equation? A real Wonder Woman is a woman of great intelligence, who can balance her life with grace. Someone that takes such good care of themselves that they damn well could lift up an invisible jet. Her bracelets may not be indestructible but her spirit is not.

That’s a woman of wonder.

Week 14: Theme 1

Page 1: You have just found yourself a great pair of pants and for a bargain to boot. You go to put them in your cart when you look down and see baby products, instead of your belongings. If you choose to leave the cart where you found it go to page 4. If you decided to abandon the cart right where it is go to page 5.

Page 5: As you walk away from the cart you pass a frantic woman with a baby strapped to her chest. It’s highly likely that the cart belongs to her, since you are both in the nearly empty Women’s department. If you approach the woman and ask her if she was looking for her cart, go to page 6. If you pass the woman and don’t say anything go to page 7. If you panic and decided to leave the department altogether and come back for it after you do a loop in the shoe section, so she won’t notice what happened could have been caused by you, go to page 8.

Page 8: You do a quick search for any cute shoes and none present themselves. As you go back to your cart you feel relieved that is it there and that the woman has seemed to have left. If you proceed to check out go to page 9. If you do another loop around the jewelry section go to page 10.

Page 10: With a new set of earrings to add to your collection you wait in line. If you are feeling guilty go to page 11. If you are feeling guilty and paranoid that the woman may come back to yell at you go to page 12. If you are paranoid, guilty and about to pay $150 at Target, go to page 13.

Page 13: You are ridiculous.

Week 13 Theme

The phone buzzes and she’s calling. The device vibrates against the end table, alerting me that I am getting a call. I hear what the voice on the other line has to say and sigh. I tell them that I will be right there, as I snatch up  my car keys in my fist. Kelsey’s late for work and she forgot to grab money for gas. If I weren’t around her mother, a pathologist, would have had to come leave her lab and go down to the gas station to bail her out. I gave her money for the gas and a snack for work.

The first night I came home from college, after I finished my fourth semester, I went bar hopping. I had way too much to drink and I got kicked out of a bar for not being able stand up when we were trying to dance. She got me safely into the car of a designated driver, even after I puked in her friend’s car. She even went a cleaned up the mess, after she held my hair and watched me unload.

We used to be part of an inseparable team of three. Liz and Kelsey were friends first, since they were in the first grade together at catholic school. The three of us went and did as a pack. Our Junior year Liz was interested in a boy that had it in his mind that he really disliked Kelsey; even after spending nearly no time with her. Liz told me that she was “garbage”, mainly because she was loud and smoked pot occasionally. I couldn’t believe I heard someone refer to another human being as “garbage”, let alone our close mutual friend. I quickly cut her out of our life. We referred to Liz after that as ”el diablo”.

Our tested friendship is one that you can’t duplicate. Not everyone will stick it out with you through thick and thin like you best friend can.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost. For want of a shoethe horse was lost. For want of a horse the rider was lost. For want of a rider the battle was lost. For want of a battle the kingdom was lost. And all for the wantof a horseshoe nail.

My body aches from working so hard the night before, but the bright sun pesters me awake, like an alarm clock. Stumbling from bed, I put on coffee and brew my glasses. Once again I’m sitting at the makeshift desk, or my dining room table, in an uncomfortable plastic chair. I begin to peck away at the keyboard, referencing books and trying carefully not to spill on the pages. Hours pass me by and my deadline approaches. Time to prepare for my other job.

Quickly I shower, walk the dog, eat lunch/ dinner and bike a few blocks. Change out of my bike shorts and into my work uniform. I serve ice cream to massive amounts of spoiled, screaming children. As the children have their tantrums, I want so badly to make them behave; but I don’t get paid to do that. What I do get paid to do, in addition to serving sugar high’s, is to train people how to do my job. In secret, I hope that they are the last person I train before I move on with my life. At the end of the shift I count the money I made. Money that goes to mainly cost of living and whatever else is to be set aside for the upcoming semesters.

This routine, however monotonous is my way to achieve my career path. I have decided that I want to become a Kindergarten teacher. I work to pay for school, to educate  myself and to eventually educate myself how to educate. Hopefully one day I will save another waitress from hearing the shouts of a rowdy kid.
